Cholestech L.D.X System Chosen For National Cholesterol
Screening Campaign at Walgreens Drugstores

HAYWARD, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--March 25, 1998--Cholestech Corporation (NASDAQ:CTEC
- news) announced today that its Cholestech L.D.X(R) System has been chosen for use in cholesterol
screenings at nearly 600 Walgreens drugstores for a five-week period in March and April.

The Cholestech L.D.X System is a telephone-sized device that employs a single-use, disposable
cassette to perform comprehensive cholesterol tests from a single drop of whole blood in less than
five minutes. The Cholestech L.D.X System's nearly immediate results are as accurate as similar tests
performed in clinical labs, and enable healthcare professionals to counsel patients during the same
visit.

''We're pleased that the ease of use, accuracy and quick results of our Cholestech L.D.X System make
it well suited for this national screening effort, and that we can help individuals take a proactive role
in improving their health,'' said Warren Pinckert II, president and CEO of Cholestech Corporation.
''The use of our System in Walgreens' large-scale campaign, combined with the company's
involvement in many other health promotion activities, reflects Cholestech's position as a leader in
preventive healthcare.''

The screenings will utilize the Cholestech L.D.X System to offer customers comprehensive
cholesterol test results including total cholesterol, LDL (or 'bad' cholesterol), HDL (or 'good'
cholesterol) and trigylcerides in less than five minutes. Walgreens anticipates that this effort will be
one of the largest screening programs of its kind.

''By offering this screening in our stores, we're making it easier than ever for our customers to
monitor their health,'' said Don Johnson, RPh., Walgreens manager of new marketing development.
''The Cholestech L.D.X System is an important element in the program's success because it provides
people with immediate, accurate results. Before they leave the store, people can review the test
results with trained healthcare professionals, and, if needed, can contact their physician to discuss an
appropriate treatment plan.''

To encourage participation, the public has been provided a toll-free telephone number,
888/TEST-NOW (888/837-8669), to determine dates and locations of testing.

Testing will be available at Walgreens stores in Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, Cincinnati; Cleveland;
Denver; Des Moines, IA; Hartford, CT; Houston; Indianapolis, IN; Los Angeles County-Orange
County, CA; Miami; Milwaukee; Minneapolis-St. Paul; New Orleans; Orlando, FL; Palm Beach, FL;
Phoenix; San Antonio, TX; San Jose, CA; Santa Clara, CA; Sarasota, FL; St. Louis; Tampa-St.
Petersburg, FL; Tucson, AZ; and Tulsa, OK.

Walgreens is the nation's largest drugstore chain, with sales of $13.4 billion. The company operates
more than 2,400 stores in 34 states and Puerto Rico. Its exclusive Intercom Plus pharmacy computer
system is the most advanced in the industry, automating many administrative tasks to allow
pharmacists more time to counsel patients.

Cholestech Corporation manufactures and markets a proprietary system to healthcare, wellness, and

CLIA-waived products is designed to offer efficient and economic diagnostic screening and
therapeutic monitoring options that will ultimately enable people to lead longer, healthier, and more
