Yes it is a good deal tax wise if you are bearish on the stock. Remember an individual or married couple can deduct only up to 3000 net capital losses in a year and the remainder carries over to the next year.

If you are not sure about the direction of cpq right now. Maybe you should sell the stock and buy some calls if for some unknown reason cpq decides to take off in the next mont.
