<<Semiconductor and PC issues took a hit after Merrill Lynch analyst
Thomas Kurlak said the PC market is no longer capable of driving
semiconductor industry growth. According to Kurlak, prices for DRAM
and commodity microprocessors used in PCs will continue to fall as
manufacturers move increasingly toward mass production.

Kurlak sees the Internet and telecommunications industries as the new
frontiers for the chip industry, monopolized by digital signal processors,64-bit microprocessors and integrated circuits. Kurlak noted Texas Instruments and VLSI Technology as companies who have recognized this trend and redirected their product lines away from the PC market. "Intel, AMD and Micron will have a lot of work to do to re-orient themselves," Kurlak said.>>
