All,

Even Sprint is doing better after its spin off its 360 degree company a year ago at $39. Now is $72. Conservative play pays off. Not even mention LU and T.

Sprint, cable firms mulling IPO of Sprint PCS
By Jessica Hall
NEW YORK, March 19 (Reuters) - Sprint Corp (FON - news) and its three cable partners in Sprint PCS may sell a portion of the wireless company through an initial public offering, one partner said Thursday.

Cox Communications Inc. (COX - news) spokesman David Andersen said the possibility of an IPO has been discussed but it is not certain whether or not such an offering will occur.

The four partners -- Cox, Sprint, Tele-Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:LBTYA - news; TCOMA - news; TCOMB - news) and Comcast Corp (CMCSA - news) -- have said they are currently discussing the possibility of restructuring the partnership.

A restructuring could take a variety of forms, including an IPO or a shift in the partners' ownership stakes.

''It's no secret that we have looked at increasing our stake in Sprint PCS. And for the cable operators, as things evolved and changed in their industry, PCS is not core to them,'' said Sprint spokesman Bill White.

Andersen said Cox is ''committed to Sprint PCS...We're very satisfied with the return on the investment. We're pleased to be a partner in this national network.''

Comcast declined to comment on its Sprint PCS stake. TCI officials could not be reached for comment.

A public offering of Sprint PCS would be well received, analysts said.

''It would be one of the most notable IPOs of the year...it would be a must do and must hold,'' said David Menlow, president of IPO Financial Network Corp, based in Springfield, N.J.

Strong demand for telecommunications-related offerings and the Sprint brand name would increase interest in an offering, Menlow said.

''An IPO would be an attractive way for playing a national network with a strong brand name. Having one million subscribers adds to their value,'' said David Freedman, a telecommunications analyst with Bear Stearns.

Sprint PCS operates in 134 markets nationwide, giving it a much broader network compared to regional PCS players such as Omnipoint Corp (OMPT - news) or Aerial Communications Inc (AERL - news), analysts said.

The PCS network, seen as the next generation of wireless technology, also would give the company a strong valuation than traditional cellular companies, analysts said.
