i don't where they get .88 on book to bill. does anyone know the lowest the book to bill has gotten to see it as a true indicator. in 1996 what did the book to bill reach. i'll do some research but appreciATE if anybody could make a historical comparison to the figure.

That is close to the silliest "logic" I've heard lately. The issue here is that the B2B is below 1.0, which represents contracting orders, aka, a contracting industry. It is lower this month than last month (a trend that isn't positive). The statement about "it's higher than some were expecting" sounds to me like diversionary tactics to get people's minds off the real issue, or someone's misguided BS.

Re-stated, a B2B above 1.0 represents more orders than shipments, a positive thing (growth as opposed to contraction). Below 1.0 is basically the opposite.
