Your points are all well taken, especially that of tech companies and marketing. It does not reflect negatively on those individuals within those companies except for their not understanding the importance of a proper marketing plan and team to support it.

As for which view is correct, as we both know only time will tell.

I do not recall seeing anything that implied the possibility of a take over attempt of CyberCash and so I did not consider the "poison pill" possibility. Although I wouldn't necessarily rule it out I don't believe that was the case with this company.

In regard to spending the money on marketing vs buying ICVERIFY I see it as getting both the technology they need to remain competitive and at the same time expanding their market. Should they consider another acquisition..THEN I WILL HAVE STONG RESERVATIONS as to what their motive/vision is.

Cybercash has expanded its marketing significantly and has hired new people for this purpose. With regard to ICVERIFY acquisition, I believe this is a wise move now--in a year or two, it would have cost Cybercash several times this amount to buy such a fine company (including the management). In an infant industry, growth is the the most important element of survival. Clearly, acquisition is the fastest way of growing.
