There's a little bit of info at the Winstar web site. Wireless Fiber links are produced using 38GHz radios. They require line of sight, and have a range of 1-5 miles. The path that they beam over is very narrow, about a foot in diameter (hence the small radio size).

Paul, if you want to know the technology end of this business, I'd suggest you direct a post to Dr. Bernard Levy (he's posted here on WinStar before). He knows the technology better than anyone else I've come across. He probably also knows the links to read up on the technology.

Paul, you may want to check the following sight:
isir.com
Also the ARTT web sight has some good info. You may also want to look at the sights of some of the radio mfg. P-COM, California Microwave, Digital Microwave, Broadband Networks(this may be integrated into the Nortel sight by now, i havn't been there in a while.)

Hope this helps,
Dub
