V9 slips and new v8.3 release created. From a PRGS press release:

The Progress Software Core Product and Services Group is pleased to announce the addition of a new release, PROGRESSr Version 8.3A, to its development plans for 1998. The PROGRESS Version 8.3A release enhances the capabilities of the Version 8 product family, to take advantage of the rapid growth of the application solutions marketplace. Several key features planned for the PROGRESS Version 9 release have been brought forward to PROGRESS Version 8.3A, allowing customers and application partners to take immediate advantage of this release with their existing applications. This immediate deployment is made possible because existing Version 8 r-code will not need to be recompiled, and the database version will not change.

The PROGRESS Version 8.3A release will contain the following deployment-focused features:
ú A new 32-bit version of the Report BuilderT product,
ú Enterprise database enhancements to improve application scalability,
ú Database scalability to 4000 concurrent connections,
ú Database kernel performance enhancements,
ú Support for Oracle8 databases through the DataServerT for ORACLE (on the following platforms only: Windows NT, AIX, HP-UX and Solaris.)
ú Improved collation techniques for the impending introduction of the Euro monetary unit,
ú Incorporation of all current bug fixes.
