how about a little more meat, as to what you see as the major reason for shorting asmlf vs amat or ter or lrcx etc.

I agree. There's a whole market cult that dwells on stock splits. They have newsletters, analysts, secret clubs etc. As a result, you have momentum run-up of splitting stocks.

I'd catch ASM at the top of the artificial runup after the split. That is, if I wanted to short it.
