I think the conventional wisdom is that (on average) only 30% of a stock's movement is individual. The rest is attributed to secular trends in the sector & the market.

I am waiting for the tide to recede...the wave is definitely out...dont care too much about the ripple

this tide, wave, ripple is tied to a study that showed that returns are driven largely by these factors and in those proportions
