CASTLEWOOD SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES
INVESTMENT BY AIWA

Pleasanton, Calif. (March 18, 1998) - Castlewood Systems, which introduced the world's first removable media hard drive to use new magnetoresistive (MR) head technology at the November Comdex Show, announced at the CeBIT Hannover Fair in Germany that Aiwa Co., Ltd. of Japan has invested in Castlewood as part of a strategic alliance between the two companies. In doing so, Aiwa joins an elite group of multinational corporate investors that have a stake in the California-based maker of multimedia and computer peripheral products.

"Castlewood and Aiwa have complementary business ideologies, which results in a remarkably synergistic relationship," says Syed Iftikar, CEO of Castlewood Systems. "This investment and strategic alliance allow us to expand beyond our core PC business and target the multimedia and consumer electronics industries for which ORBT is so well-suited." Castlewood reports that its ORB removable disk drive has a storage capacity of 2.16 GB and a sustained data transfer rate of 12.2 megabytes per second - the fastest transfer rate of any removable media product available today - making it completely video capable.

"Aiwa enters into this alliance recognizing the potential of ORB technology and seeing a tremendous opportunity to work with a visionary company like Castlewood," says Yoshio Ishigaki, president of Aiwa. Castlewood will begin shipping four versions of its ORB media drive this spring: internal EIDE, external parallel port, internal SCSI and external SCSI. Various configurations are compatible with different operating systems, including DOS, Windows 3.X/95/NT and Macintosh. The two external configurations will carry a suggested retail price of $199.95. Individual 2.16 GB disks have a retail price of $29.95.

Aiwa Co., Ltd., is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of consumer and professional audio and video entertainment, computer, data storage, multimedia and communications products. Based in Tokyo, Aiwa had worldwide consolidated sales of US $3 billion in 1997. Castlewood products are manufactured by Trans Capital, a Malaysian technology manufacturing company with processes that are ISO 9000 certified. Castlewood products will be distributed and sold around the world through a variety of channels including retail, mail order, commercial distribution, value-added resellers and system integrators and original equipment manufacturers.

The company is a privately held California corporation, and can be contacted at Castlewood Systems, Inc., 5000 Hopyard Road, Suite 330, Pleasanton, California, 94588. Additional information about Castlewood and its products can be found on the company's Web site, www.castlewoodsystems.com.
