John--thanks for your correction. I did not make clear that I did not put the GRNO stock I withdrew in a Roth, since I do not want to make it unavailable for five years. So I did take a "distribution," whereas those who process a roll-over do not.

TO ALL: Just returned from Fidelity after placing a few losing stocks in a Roth rolled over from non deductible IRA. I will let the accountant give me tax I will owe over 4 years. ( Actually 5 years since first installment due Apr. 15, 1999). Hopes are that increase in value will far exceed any taxes owed. I thank you all for input into this discussion. It helped me.
