Norm, very glad to see your return to the thread. Your detailed, informative posts were missed.

I'm also glad to see the pick up in traffic on this thread which had been reduced to dancing with reptiles.

Norm, your reference to chaos at SK is a serious indictment of LLE. Speaking from a career in private enterprise, I would like to play devil's advocate and say that SK employees should have seen the writing on the wall for a long time. The public announcement supplied these employees with a public acknowledgement of their situation which they can take to prospective employers, rather than going with their word alone. On the other hand, to make such an announcement without prior communication with SK employees is something I wouldn't understand.

In any case, it will be a while before any of this pertains to GRNO. And if and when that time comes, I suspect LLE won't be alone.

Of course, I am allowing myself to get drawn into this train of thought that LLE would take over GRNO. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

Again, welcome back!

Charles

Norm, could you post the URL of the news release you referred to that says the SK headquarters will be shut down and 600 people would be laid off? The only statement I could find is the WSJ article posted by Robert Korn saying

Layoffs Viewed as Likely

Laidlaw Environmental has maintained that it can achieve more than $100 million in cost savings as it intends to merge operations, and close Safety-Kleen's head office, which employs more than 600 people, most of whom are likely to be laid off.

This is some reporter making a sweeping statement that this was an LLE release. Yet I haven't found such a release. From what I have seen of what passes for modern journalism, I think some liberties were taken here. Laying off SK people is probably what they will do, but I don't think they officially said it. I'm not taking LLE's side, just being a little skeptical.

Then again, this is probably something said in confidence to a reporter by an insider, not very smart.
