ECI Telecom Launches ADSL Broadband Access to the Home System Hi-FOCuS at CEBIT, Hannover, 1998 Revolutionizing the Availability of New Services Over Copper to the Home PETAH TIKVA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1998-- ECI Telecom Ltd. (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECILF - news) announced today the launching of its new xDSL Broadband Access System: Hi-FOCuS(TM). Hi-FOCuS(TM) is ECI Telecom's ATM over Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Broadband Access system, designed in response to the explosive demand for Teleworking, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and residential subscriber applications. Incorporating ECI Telecom's innovative FractalLink(TM) architecture and ''Half-Switch'' network topology, Hi-FOCuS(TM) provides optimized functionality for Broadband Internet, Video and Gaming services. Designed for mass deployment, the system is one of the highest density ADSL solutions available today, with up to 120 ATM modems per shelf. The Hi-FOCuS(TM) ATM to the Home (ATTH) architecture makes it possible to provide service differentiation based on Quality of Service (QoS), as well as to carry services of different types over a single copper infrastructure, for example, Internet, LAN interconnection, video and voice. FractalLink(TM) also provides advanced traffic management capabilities, enabling the Telcos to create differentiated service packages for their different subscriber segments. ''Integrating our expertise in transmission, access networks and data networking, we have created a state of the art product which is a truly mass-deployable, service oriented solution,'' said Pinny Chaviv, Associate Vice President for Broadband Access. ''We used a design strategy which optimized both the customers' first costs as well as the lifetime costs of this system.'' Hi-FOCuS(TM) provides a complete solution for broadband access over copper optimized for mass deployment as well as very low penetration topologies. A wide range of CPE devices enable Hi-FOCuS(TM) to meet the needs of a variety of different subscriber segments. Hi-FOCuS(TM) ADSL and ADSL Lite modems incorporate Ethernet and ATM25 interfaces with both bridging and routing functionality. The SOHO optimized modem includes a HUB with 4 Ethernet ports. At CeBIT, ECI Telecom will be demonstrating a modem with simultaneous Ethernet and ATM25 interfaces which provides Telcos with superior flexibility in the deployment of broadband access networks. Hi-FOCuS(TM) enjoys the very robust and feature rich network management capabilities of ECI Telecom's Access Network Products, featuring tools for configuration, alarm monitoring, performance monitoring, security management, and transmission fault analysis. ECI Telecom is a developer of HDSL and ADSL technology and systems. More than 35,000 ECI Telecom HDSL DMT modems are deployed worldwide, with more than 4 million subscribers connected to ECI Telecom's DSL solutions. Hi-FOCuS(TM) is being received with great interest by Telcos and is currently in field trials in several networks worldwide. A provider of integrated network solutions, ECI Telecom designs, develops, manufactures and markets digital telecommunications and data transmission systems, enabling network operators to deliver cost-effective services. ECI Telecom's systems provide capacity expansion, flexibility and management functions to more effectively utilize existing networks for voice, data, wide area and integrated networks.
