You're probably right. But the huge runup last year was premature. After Cidco announced the beginning of Japan caller I.D. sales and Robertson Stephens initiated coverage, people went beserk-o. I liked it at $15 and below, but didn't own any prior to the runup.

I think it's also possible there's a meaningful amount of selling to raise money for taxes coming up. There was plenty of buying around $20 last year, so selling off over the past few weeks would also provide a nice write-off for next spring.

But things sure look good to me. CDCO has always been pretty volatile, due to the relatively lumpy nature of its revenues, but that is changing as it moves into broader distribution. I'm buying.

And if anyone has any doubt about the iPhone's viability, they should order one and check it out for a month for free. They'll be surprised at how well it works. It's very fast, convenient, and intuitive.

Another thing. A year ago on the INTD thread, I ruffled some feathers by saying the iPhone would threaten Intelidata's Intelifone once it arrived. If you can have the web instead of text-only, and the price is reasonable, what will you choose?

Now that I've checked out both, I'm more convinced than ever iPhone and other webphones will be everywhere in the future. The necessary improvements are easy to make, and the price will come down over time.

Dumb phones are out, smart (web) phones are in.
