<< If we accept the Bible as the infallible word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit, then any contradiction is because of our lack of understanding.>>

That's very true, and we can only do that if we are willing to abide in the truth. -Chris

Hmmm... I'd like to explore the idea that the Bible is the "infallible word of God".
One quick word on classical logic. The statement "if A is true, then B is true" is equivalent to "if B is false, then A is false". Let's consider this applied to your statement:
A = the infallible word of God (shortened); and
B = any contradiction is because of our lack of understanding.
The question: are there any contradictions that aren't because of a lack of understanding? I don't have the answer. Only the question. :-)

Bob,
that is an interesting philosophical point.

I am not saying the word or God is not infallible. What I am saying is the book sitting in my library that says Bible on the cover was written by men and women who were attempting to convey the word of God. If there are inconsistencies or contradiction it is not because God is inconsistent or contradictory but because there fallible humans who attempted to convey His word erred. If that means that I do not accept the Bible as the inspired word of God, so be it. That book has gone through many translations and interpretations over the centuries. To me what is more important is the spirit of God's word and the example of Christ.
