Mike, you imply that the FDA is some sort of Mafia outfit. That's very unkind.

My point about the statistics was to point them out. They put the studies into context. Reading footnotes is boring, but necessary. Remember you are making linear judgments about non-linear situations. You have to hold a lot of things constant to come to a meaningful conclusion. That should be your very argument for having a device that can give you these quick and simple results. I'm not sure if you need that kind of continuous monitoring in jaundice. The kinetics of jaundice are very different from those of oxygen saturation. Comparing them is rather strange.

You are telling me that you would make a medical decision on the basis of how yellow someone is. Have you tried crystal therapy?

Take a hint, if you look under someone's tongue and it looks yellow, include LFT's with your exam. Don't be guessing. And don't charge the full fee for a guess. Liver function tests give you an idea of what's going on. A colorimeter tells you what color something is. If that's good enough for monitoring fine. I suspect that a theraputic change will require a blood test.

Your friend and mentor,

Dan
