All assay labs have table top grinders. This is a device with two grooved 10 inch disks. One disk is stationary and the other spins. Pressure between the disks is controlled with screw adjustments. Part of the sample prep for fire assays is to crush the ore to about 1/4 inch. This material is then fed into the grinder and it is milled down to about 200 mesh. This machine is capable of processing several pound per hour. It is usually disassembled and cleaned between each sample which is processed to prevent contamination. This is a standard prep for fire assays.
