Interesting, well written, and fair article. There is a respectable house, is Brookings. The antitrust battle now being waged will likely become landmark precedent, setting the stage for antitrust activity related to the technology industries for a long time to come.

There is interesting is the analogy drawn between the OS and the railroads. I am thinking this is one of the most significant comments he is making:

And there are what economists call "network externalities" -- the more other locations and customers that connect to the same rail network to which you are connected, the more valuable it is to both you and them. These economies of scale and network externalities buttressed a de facto transportation monopoly for many rural communities across the United States.

This concept of network externalities is a new term to me, but well suited to describing the idea. Hmm, hmm, interesting.
