Ali - Re: "Do you know by the chance how much two (or four) pieces
of the proprietary 400-MHz SDRAM may cost for Intel? "

The 400 MHz SRAM chip - 512 Kbytes (4 MegaBits) - built on Intel's very mature 0.35 micron process, should cost, by my estimates somewhere between $18 and $23 each - for silicon die costs.

It's a big chip - 222 sq mm - but Intel's 0.35 micron process has excellent yields, keeping the cost within reason.

This chip has over 24 million transistors - so you can also sleep easily if you're worried about Intel's upcoming Merced chip yielding well. Of course, it will be built on a process 2 generations beyond the 0.35 micron process.

And Intel will not have to go to IBM to have these chips built!

Do you know what excellent yields are , Ali?

Paul

Ali, oh screw-driver man, Re: "BTW, this thread looks more like AMD thread:) Why so much attention to a company that is going to belly up,"

Your statement is a bit ambiguous, or, maybe tongue in cheek, as I read it. I assume you are saying AMD is going to go belly up? (surely, you couldn't mean Intel). Why the sudden change of opinion/heart? I thought you thought AMD was the greatest thing since sliced bread and Intel sucked. Is this yet another conversion of a misguided soul to the Church of Intel? If so, you need to register with our St. Peter, who does toll duties at our Pearly Gates, whose name is Humble Carl. I think I can speak for Humble Carl in saying that, as long as you vow to never, ever stray from the flock of Intel, you can bask in its brilliant light forever. Otherwise, you can, and probably will fall into desperation and into the flaming world of.......................................................................................................................................... ...............................................................................................................................................................Satan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
