Just for peoples information, in CDN$, the wholesale price of DLT
drives is as follows

Summer 97 Now
DLT4000 6500 4600
DLT7000 11900 9800

SONY AIT I have no data 4300
EXBT mammoth 4300

The DLT4000 is roughly equivalent to the AIC/EXBT drives, a little
slower but linear tape path may make it more gentle and less like to
damage tapes.

DLT7000 is faster and larger than AIC

This would confirm my observation that Quantum has priced the 4000
series drive to compete with AIC and EXBT mammoth, and is maintaining
a good price premium on the 7000 drive. Although that price is down by
almost 20%, hopefully their margins have held up if volume increased
as was expected (QNTM is trying to shift emphasis to the higher end product).

Bleeker:The future of the Disc Manufacturers is closely tied to the Box Makers. Since CPQ and IBM have an Inventory problem one can infer that Sales, rev, income for SEG, QNTM, & WDG are going to be
lower.

Does any one know the existing gross and net Profit margins for the 3?. I think a valuation based on price to profit margin may help to decide how QNTM is headed.
