Back a while there was a comment that G3 boxes(not laptops) were scarce and you had to wait for them.(how long ??)

I remember 1st week of Feb or so Apple was not accepting new resellers, and were quoting long lead times. IBM makes their G3 in Quebec, and the fab was down for 3 weeks because of the ice storm in January. I think that resolved itself a month ago.

"I leave my system on all the time and the only times I seem to boot is when I upgrade some program or change a network card."

I use a PC at work too. The nature of my work requires near constant use of my PC. I reboot eight or ten times a day. I realize that applications software could be the culprit too. Funny thing though, I never have similar problems with my Mac.

This experience may be unique, but I doubt it. More than anything else, that's why I've never even considered switching platforms at home. To me, a computer is a tool not a hobby. Frankly, all I want to do is get work done. The Mac has always been better for doing that than the PC.
