Question for thread :

is it fair to compare what CPQ is currently going through this Q1 with what happened to GTW 2 quarters ago? GTW preanounced "marginal earnings" for the quarter for the exact same reason that CPQ has stated for this quarter... that they overestimated demand.

GTW stock went from near its all time high of mid 40's to the mid 20's.
well, GTW took a write-off, started bundling printers, etc... with their low end pentium 166 mmx systems to clear inventory, and the following quarter beat analyst's lowered expectations, and the stock is back in the 40's...

does this seem possible for CPQ as well, even if it takes CPQ 2 quarters to recover? or is this too simplistic, are there differences in the case of CPQ?

at any rate, i am holding on to my shares, and buying more, and waiting til the end of the year. i am hoping that any of the following things from CPQ will send the stock back into the 30's:

1) news that the inventory problem is being solved

2) details about CPQ's DEC plan finally revealed

3) the traditionally strong q4.

The first stamp struck in the new nation of Lichtensoft will depict Prince William (as per Loki)on skis wielding big bertha ski poles. Prince William will rule absolutely and there will be no DOJ in Lichtensoft.
