The question in my mind is did CPQ really make an error in over estimating demand? If they did, then what they are doing makes sense...they are reacting to the problem of too much inventory. But if they didn't overestimate it, in fact if they didn't give a damn about it, then what is the real deal? All this cohesive, organized price cutting...is it reasonable to think that this is a spur of the moment knee jerk reaction, or is it more reasonable to think that the whole thing has been coordinated and planned? Maybe we are all players in a story that is still unfolding, and it is us and the media that is clueless, not Compaq. I'm glad I'm long. Everyone thinks that Compaq has blundered terribly...yet their past does not add up to the present. We'll see.
