One's choice of clothing reflects personality, as does one's automobile, handwriting, choice of words, etc. Therapists can learn much about a person through observation of small details, much in the same manner as do detectives. We can apply the projective hypothesis to Mr. Pink's postings, and make educated guesses about his character based upon subtleties and nuances of his expression. I think I have come to some reasonably firm conclusions about Mr. Pink. First, it is likely that Pink is a Jewish male between the ages of 38 and 42. He is likely single and if he was ever married, that marriage failed after only a few years. He has acquaintances but few close friends. He has no children -- or if he does, he rarely sees them. He has a close relationship with his mother, or had one if she is now dead. There was a strained father-son relationship. He is likely an only child or a later-born. He is not religious in the traditional sense of the word. Pink is a "loner," but oddly enough he rarely feels lonely, for he is intellectually resourceful and enjoys reading (and quite possibly the arts). He holds a degree from a respectable college and may also hold an MBA, although his tolerance for classroom instruction is poor and he may have left graduate education before earning an advanced degree. He is likely perceived as somewhat eccentric by others: his introversion, tendency towards cynicism and inability to respond to others' wishes causes many to give him a wide berth. At times he lapses into a gracefully humorous mode of interaction which is self-effacing and disarming, but he has difficulty maintaining that behavior. Pink's acrimony towards ACRT and the "criminals" who run a successful enterprise reflects Pink's ambivalent feelings about his father, who may well have abandoned Pink and his mother when Pink was a child. Pink's vehement attitude towards Amos Aharoni represents projective transference. Rather than live with servants (as Pink has described) his mother likely had trouble making ends meet after Pink's father left, and it is probable that Pink holds his father responsible for his mother's plight. He has never (or rarely) confronted his father with the hostility he harbors towards him. ACRT and its management are, in fact, Pink's symbolic father. His is the classic Oedipal struggle: he would like to defeat the father, to bring him down, but he is destined to lose in that conflict. The central paradox is: even if he "wins," he loses. That Pink uses risky shorting strategies almost guarantees that he will eventually end up losing: if not with ACRT, then with the bulk of securities he has shorted. Many have sensed that Pink has poor self-esteem and that is true, although Pink would deny it. To admit to feelings of inadequacy would only confirm Pink's greatest fears and would bring on the depression he has been avoiding for years. He would have to acknowledge his difficulty in relationships and express hostility which has become a part of his character and behavior. Pink's choice of name, "Mr. Pink," signifies feelings of emasculation which he has wrestled with over many years and betrays his weak ego state. Pink is clearly in need of assistance. He is more to be pitied than to be feared, and our anger only feeds the rage and inner turmoil he experiences. He should enter psychotherapy, but is unlikely to do so because he has a cynical distrust of anything that is not tangible or quantifiable, and would have to deal with feelings he has successfully repressed over many years. --Truly a "Thinkin' Shrink" ACRT: Quote | Profile | Research This Is a Reply to: Msg 1 by YahooFinance <- Previous Next -> Message 3647 of 3648 Reply Go to: Start | Most Recent | Message List | Message Number: All Boards Only in this Board All Boards & Topics Authors Terms and Conditions Yahoo! is a trademark of Yahoo!
