WW,duke,

The rule-of-thumb for taking a V-count is count first column that gives a signal that either breaks the prevailing trend or an accumulation pattern (either bottoming or topping). Then do the box count x 3 for uptrend columns or 2 for downtrend columns.
Now whether you add/subtract the resultant to the current column low/high or the previous column low/high depends on who's book you read. Tom D specifies the current column. Cohen and Burke specify the previous column... but in reality.. who cares. It's within one box value delta and it's only a projection. In cases where you aren't hitting a resistance or support line when the 'projected' price is arrived at, the stock will tend to continue it's direction on momentum, barring external forces eg news, earnings report, Greenspan, Greenberg, etc.
