Tom,

You stated:

>>Correct me if I am wrong but is not the Capture (R) assay an integral component of the ABS2000? This deal gives Immucor complete control over the entire process as does their deal with the manufacturer of the ABS2000. The ducks are all lined up!>>>>

Yes the Capture line is integral to the ABS. Without it, there would be no ABS...ask J&J about that, they found out the hard way .

I don't know of any special deal Blud has with the manufacturer of the ABS. I believe it is a simple sub-contract kind of thing. Blud calls all the shots . All the proprietary parts (except the software?? ) are the property of Immucor. Do you know differently ? I think the software was "licensed" from another firm....artificial intelligence. This is a plus, since the FDA required ( a long while ago) software trials which this firm had already done when using the software in another device.

IBG distributes a " semi-automated blood grouping instrumentation ".
My take on this : this instrument is probably the closest device to the ABS. it is "SEMI-automated" for blood grouping analysis. Nice move, if you want second best, we have that too. This device, like the ABS, interprets Capture assays. The difference is: it is only semi-automated....probably more semi than automated :)

When you say " The ducks are all lined up!>>>> It brings to mind Blud's acquisition of Dominion Biologicals, maker of the reagents for the ABS, etc. Remember, the reagents for the ABS will bring in more profit than the ABS units themselves..about $50,000 (gross) reagent trail per year per unit. BLUD cut out the middleman.
