AMS Signs Contract with Kentucky to Re-Engineer Statewide Financial, Budget and Procurement Systems First State to Tackle Project of This Scope FAIRFAX, Va., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- American Management Systems (AMS) (Nasdaq: AMSY - news) announced today that it has signed a $28.5 million contract with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to develop an enterprise-wide financial, budget and procurement solution that will streamline and modernize the state's management systems. The initiative, known as the Management Administrative and Reporting System (MARS), is a critical component of EMPOWER Kentucky, Governor Paul Patton's comprehensive re-engineering effort which he initiated nearly two years ago. Secretary John P. McCarty of the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet said this investment in technology is part of an overall effort to simplify and update how the state handles its financial and materials management. The improvements are expected to save $108.5 million in General Fund dollars over the next six years. McCarty approved the selection of AMS based on an extensive evaluation by managers from all levels and agencies across state government. The selection process began a year ago with the release of a request for qualifications. AMS was one of four leading information technology firms that responded to the subsequent request for proposal. ''AMS's track record for successfully developing and implementing statewide financial systems in 17 states, and their reputation for service and working in partnership with their clients, are the primary reasons why we chose them,'' said Secretary McCarty. ''Thanks to Governor Patton's leadership and commitment to EMPOWER Kentucky, we're the first state to initiate a re-engineering project that is this far-reaching and innovative. AMS has excellent credentials to support such an important project, and what stands out about them is their reputation for service and partnership in implementing change of this magnitude.''
