I agree 100%. Can't understand why PC Mag would waste paper on this sort of nonsense. If Intel were to acquire Compaq, it would alienate most of its customer base and would amount to suicide. Intel DEPENDS on a competitive PC manufacturing industry in order to maximize CPU sales.

Actually, that's a slightly more plausible reason for this
foolishness than my earlier speculation about the darkness
surrounding Dvoraks's head owing to its current location.
Only slightly, though. I seem to remember Dvorak floating
this notion a couple of months ago. Looks like maybe he
didn't get any bites so he's dangling the lure again.

I've been making arguments about cost/cash/relative size,
which are ok as far as they go, but these are the telling
points.
