Believe me I know exactly what you're saying. In the final analysis it is a measurement of risk versus reward. Does the reward of extra premium outweigh the risk of getting called away? Incidentally, while I was waiting for your post I looked up the option premiums for cpq. By way of example: the april 25 can be bought right now for about $1.00 and the July 30 can be sold for about $1.00. So it appears that one could go out three months and up $5./shr and be indifferent (not taking into account commissions)
