I've held Cpq for a while and dont need the money so I'll hold longer.
Surely..Management ran the ole scam of warning a bit too much so that the numbers will be a little better and good for a pop..i have my doubts..
There is no question about it..Cpq cant compete successfully with Dell and trying to put them on most peoples dog list..
You cant go wrong buying Dell and it will go higher"sideways for a while"..Its a fun stock to own even under pressure..Must less$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.It goes on

I believe that it was you who was holding both Dell and CPQ in your portfolio at the same time. I am in the same position and currently hold a nice sized gain with Dell and a recently acquired loss position with CPQ.

I was in a similar position up until a few days ago when CPQ took a turn for the worse. I dumped my CPQ and bought more DELL. In the long run I feel it will be a better investment than to wait around for 12 months to break even on CPQ.

I took profits on CPQ at 34 and 29, and sold most of my remaining position at a slight loss at 26. Still hold a few hundred shares -- not enough to impact my portfolio value nomatter what it does. Put most of the money back into Dell, adding to existing holdings, and kept a portion in cash. Haven't had a bad night's sleep since.

Will consider repurchasing CPQ if it drops to 20.

I hate to sell good companies like Compaq, but I didn't want a mini-IBM when I purchased it, and that is what it is becoming with the DEC. Still a great company, though, and there is a lot of unrealized value in DEC. I just wasn't patient enought to wait for the market to realize it. The inventory thing was the kicker for me.

If I still had a substantial position, I would sell some of it now, sell the rest on any 1 or 2 point uptick, and just hang on and ride it out with the remaining holdings if it continued to go down. After all, it's only money.
