one thing I like about current marketing of k6 is that it is k6. There are no variations or different names that you have to look-up etc. There is a chip with solid reputation and a freq.
I hope that amd would stay with that marketing strategy because it works, IMHO. If amd is to move to more sophisticated chips then they would have to discontinue the old line in order to be consistent. I am sure that some of the starts are k6-3d+ now (my speculation). But would you bet all that it is perfect and make all new amd chips to be k6+3d now? I do not think that amd is in position to do that. After the 1st chips going to be tested by consumers then amd might consider migrating to that chip. It would take some time, imho.
Now what is the remaining life-span of s7? IDTI is moving in on it really fast. Well unless amd is planning to put k6-3d+ into slot A that would limit life-span of the chip.
The conclusion is still the same - only limited number of k6-3d chips would be produced.
Well, given that upto this point amd did not manage to produce a lot of k6s that limited number of k6-3d+ might be larger than the total number of k6 chips produced :-))

ps I was not aware that amds road-map calls for a chip between k6-3d+ and k7.
