Mark,

God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins because He had such love and compassion, but I don't see people coming in hordes to the cross and confessing their sins. If this love that God gave doesn't motivate people what will? Where is the love that your talking about Mark? Have you returned any of Gods' love back to Him? Do you doubt his love? If you doubt His love then you don't really know what love is. You may be confusing God's love with that of natural affection. Natural affection is a trait that the carnal man as well as the animal kingdom possess. Natural affection is not the same love that God gives. The love of God is far superior that any one of us can possibly imagine.

The love that God gives is so beyond natural affection that Christ was called harsh at times when he displayed it.

I think the author received a glimpse of that divine love when he wrote the follow stanza:
"The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell, it goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell."

Mark, a Christian who has received divine love wants to share it with others but but usually can't because it can't be expressed in natural affection terms.

Let's put it on another level of understanding. Your child misbehaves and you spank them. You certainly are not spanking them because you hate them. You spank them because you love them and are trying to set them on the right path. Which one understands the love during the time of that crisis? The parent of course. Is it easier for the parent to explain to another parent that they love their child and have them understand it than for the child to tell another child that they recieved a spanking because of love.

God says that he chastens every son he receives, and if they receive not chastening then they are bastards. To many this is not the God of Love and compassion they are looking for. but as for me and my house we will serve Him, obey Him and as a result be called HIs own. -Chris
