<<the success rate for Viagra is not public knowledge>>

Actually, it is. As of today, the PFE press releases concerning Viagra state that it is effective in 50% to 80% of MED cases, depending on the cause of impotence.

The data isn't published yet simply because it is PFE's policy not to publish research data on new drugs until they are approved by the FDA.

Vasomax stands NO chance of approval by the FDA because it is NOT more effective than Viagra. It's chance of approval in Europe is equally unlikely. ZONA can sell Vasomax in Mexico or in other third world countries but they will make little or no money. The countries are too poor and nobody there can afford to pay a premium for non-life preserving medications. SGP is trying to recoupe as much of their investment loss as they can by going along with this Mexico registration. If SGP really believed that Vasomax stood a chance of approval in either the US, Canada, or Europe, that is where their efforts would be focused. Third world countries would be an after thought. The fact that they choose to register in Mexico first is tantamount to admitting outright that Vasomax is useless.

I find that my proprietary device works quite well for literature searches. For instance I can say draw the structure of phentolamine and find all references to it and screen for which ones are in English, which ones are Review articles how to synthesize it etc..., and if they're ACS pubs I can order them and see them Online, Ahh the wonders of Money! poke poke

Alot of Viagra numbers have been tossed about, you just have to do a little digging. I would believe Hank's numbers as being in agreement with what I have seen, not just as of today. Maybe at a PFE website?

Of course medline is useful from time to time, I particularly like Grateful Med. But I have an account at UCSD so it's not so necessary to do the Web thing.

One place I have found to be really comprehensive regarding patents and applications is:

micropat.com

Here you can find out about all of the great inventions that Zonagen has come up with one of them is called IMMUMAX. You'll find that to be interesting reading if you haven't already.

Regards Phentolamine side effects and toxicity, remember this was once a heart med and a pretty well studied one at that~9000 references or so that I could easily tap. Side effects are very well characterized. Toxicity, efficacy and AE's get to be reported by Zonagen to the FDA, I believe they claim the safety profile to be pretty good for the patient population tested; however, some posters here would disagree and the Fortune article painted a not so rosy picture of an early trial. Viagra will likely be comparable or worse in terms of side effects to oral phentolamine. (My guess. Anybody who wants to disagree?)

Regards topical formulation, I believe if you check some of Zorgniotti's work or a Zona patent application for the buccal administration of phentolamine you will find that it tasted nasty and patients were left with a burning sensation....Ouch baby! (This joke takes a while to sink in. What were you thinking? HMMM?)

Price is clutch, but far from being the bottom line in determining usage and market share, as any of the good doc's here will tell ya.
