Got to be good news for Dell. IBM today announced steep discounts on PII product, CPQ has not matched this since PII is apparently not what they need to move. Dell should be able to get either better margin or lower price with the same margin almost immediately...
sector movement depends on whether the analysts are smart enough to figure this out, but it should be pretty obvious that rapid component cost drops benefit Dell more than others, in this case IBM's current PII inventory in the channel hurts them.

Good news for Dell. They can pass on savings within 11 days. Others can't pass savings on for 30-90 days, maybe longer if they have too much inventory.

Michael, this has got to put tremendous pressure on Compaq and IBM -- both companies have bloated obsolete inventories at costs much higher than the new Pentium II machines. Maybe Compaq should give away an old computer for anyone who buys a new one.

Paul
