Some of the same market forces apply in reverse for those who write
options. It's just easier to explain from the purchas side. Also,
I don't necessarily agree about institutions not buying options. Very often, institutions will use option purchases of various types to hedge various positions that they are in. Also, spreads are becoming very widespread which typically includes a buy and a sell.
