Probably right that it is risky, and the seller is likely to lose the shares. But if it is an institution or hedge fund play locking in a pretty good return at the risk of having the shares called, it may have been worth it. I'm also thinking that with the heavy volatility the past couple of days, the call premiums must have been higher than normal. But, like I said, I don't track these options, so I could be way off base.
