Jeffrey...To be honest, I have not studied PLAB as much as I have DPMI. Everything I have heard about PLAB is nearly as good as the things I know about DPMI, except that DPMI appears to have more joint research operations going with other key industry players...and I am not aware of the same for PLAB.
As for PE's, ETEC has enjoyed a PE higher than 40 in the past, and my own expectation is that it will do so again. You are free to have other expectations. Perhaps it has something to do with the perceptions about what constitutes a cyclical industry... I do not view DPMI nor ETEC as BEING in cyclical industries..though both SERVE a cyclical industry.. I was aware that you considered DPMI to be in a cyclical industry, and now am aware that you consider ETEC there also.
With my differing view, I expect I will tolerate a rather higher PE on both stocks before selling... But that is a personal decision.
What impact were you seeing about Asia for DPMI? My understanding is that the company wasn't expecting a repeat of the one time ten cent currency charge of the previous quarter. And I would expect their (ongoing) sales are now on either a dollar or a hedged basis. As a matter of fact, I was somewhat wondering whether their sales in SE Asia might INCREASE, as the chip makers there are trying to pump out all the product they can manage.. So I'm figuring about $.51 for the quarter..certainly well above the (possible) $.40 risk you mentioned and, (hopefully) also above the $.45 figure.... Soon will know, right? TSO

J-- Yahoo financial's ranking, for what it may be worth, has PLab as #15, MASK as #31, and DPMI rated #51 of 69 Companies. (Within the "Electrical Misc Components" industry). This is based on analyst consensus, of course.
I just had a look at UTEK. Can't say it was of any interest, compared with ETEC, especially. In fact, if I held it, I'd dump it.
