I disagree. As MSFT is pushing a MSFT-only enterprise solution (i.e. COM, DCOM, SQL, and NT) their ability to meet the demands of the enterprise (or lack thereof) will be the factor that makes MSFT a player in the enterprise (or renders them irrelevant).

As BOrland is wisely targeting established open enterprise standards, they are not really even in competition with MSFT, and not under any threat (until MSFT can meet the challenges of the enterprise). I do not believe the MSFT can buy its way into this market. Nobody is going to have financial transactions running on unreliable platform.
