The Bible kind of leaves that part out. According to one of two books written by Dr. Herbert Spencer Lewis, "The Mystical Life of Jesus" and "The Secret Doctrines", Jesus travelled, studied and debated with various mystical groups in India and Tibet. It was believed by some that 1. Jesus (an Essene) was a mere prophet (the Muslims believe this) and he claimed to be a "Son of God" in the manner of mystics of high spiritual development and attainment of his time; 2. When Jesus started his Mission soon after his return from abroad, he was inspired by, and possessed of, the Holy Spirit/Ghost which left him soon after the Crucifixion (because the Mission was completed then); 3. After the Crucifixion, Jesus spent the rest of his life in utter obscurity in a monastery. I know many devout Christians will bristle at the above comments and may even condemn me as an enemy of the Church. But please don't jump to conclusion and confusion. I am merely reporting/sharing what I read a quarter of a century ago! When I was a altar boy at age 11, I had often wondered what Jesus was doing between ages 18 and 32. As I delved into Church history over the years, I found that several books of the Bible (one of them was the Book of Jasher) had been left out by a synod of bishops and the Emperor Constantine at the Council of Nicae (Nicene) in 325 A.D. Then I read about the terrible Inquisition of the Middle Ages when many perished by torture and by fire mainly because the Inquisitors/Church were intolerant and ignorant of psychic phenomena and parapsychology. Also, there was much intrigue and treachery to seize absolute power by means fair and foul. The great Copernicus refrained from publishing his De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium (The Revolution of the Planets or Solar System Theory) during his lifetime for fear of being condemned as a heretic and imprisoned, as Galileo was. By the way, the Church officially forgave Galileo in 1992 (Galileo died in 1642!!!). Our "Nosty" (Nostradamus, a Jew!) escaped death at the stake (by fire) simply because he was 'protected' by his patron, Catherine of Medici, who valued his psychic-cum-astrological expertise greatly. It is interesting to note that many Christians in Medieval Europe spent a lifetime just to prepare for the next life!!! For some time, pilgrimages to Santiago de Campostello were de rigeur . Also, in the art museums, e.g, the Prado in Madrid, and in the Escorial of San Lorenzo, a (mausoleum-cum-museum), you will see that a good number of Medieval and Renaissance artists were seemingly obsessed with The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Crucixion, and The Ascension. Both 'Nosty' and the 11th century monk Malachi had predicted we are now near the "end-time" and there would be at least a couple more Popes after the current Pope John Paul II. I do hope they are dead wrong on the "end-time" part. At whatshotin.com , you will find some 'modern', if not iconoclastic, comments about the Bible. Some Muslims believe that their prophet, Mohammed, was sent by God simply because the early Christians have kind of "screwed up" God's message and, therefore, their religion (Islam) is, to put it euphemistically, the updated one. They also believe it is no accident they are blessed with so much "black gold" (OIL). I think that by now I might have brought the blood of many readers to the boiling point. Perhaps I'd do well to STOP!!!!!!!! here. Regards. RN
