RE: <But Intel's customers shipped 233 MHz Pentium notebooks in September of last year>

Hardly any were available until November. So Intel was 4 months ahead of AMD, both on announcement date and on availability of product in reasonable volumes.

Expect the AMD 266 notebook less than two months after Intel's.

If You look in CompUSA, Office Depot, and probably Computer City and Circuit City as well You will not find a notebook with the Intel Pentium 233mmx (tillamook) in it, not because they sold them out but because they don't carry them, One sales person at CompUSA said they never got any in. However CompUSA and Office Depot and Probably Circuit City and Computer City as well have the Compaq with the K6 233. Also if you look at the home pages for Compaq and IBM You will find Compaq I believe it goes up to Pentium (tillamook) 233 and IBM lists the Pentium (tillamook) 266 for notebooks both of which sell for much more than the K6 laptop of Compaq. Compaq also lists the K6 233 notebook model 1621 and has I believe for about a month now, I've seen it in stores (above) for that long. Intel has had nothing that can compete with it in the laptop market for that long too. I believe that is a FIRST FOR AMD TO HAVE BEATEN INTEL TO MARKET WITH A BETTER LAPTOP PROCESSOR and I feel it is noteworthy. Also let us not forget that the K6 is a class above the pentium (tillamook) so You really can not compare it. The K6 233 if faster than the pentium (tillamook) 266 because the K6 is more like a Pentium II. It should be real interesting when the first P II notebooks come out and We see how much they will sell for.... or should I say Will not sell for...
