Much as some here dislike Nader, nobody has ever found anything but indirect innuendo to smear him with. Greg Bear, indeed. Now we're down to third string sci-fi as reference material!

Well, ad hominem attacks on Nader predate Microsoft. This particular ref is fresher than that other literary citation most often used as an antitrust defense :-). The investment community always has this problem accepting that people can be motivated by things other than money.

Chaz, I glad someone else reads about the history of technology and science. There is a pretty good book published recently that discusses some of that and the effects of technology in general.

"Why Things Bite Back: Technology and the Revenge of Unintended Consequences" by Edward Tenner

I recommend it. There is a good section on computer based productivity.
