Guardian, I was really talking about HYBR,not Pacific Monolithics. And to dispel another rumor, here is where that contract to China went,GLW and HYBR. Tuesday March 17, 7:55 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Hybrid Networks, Inc. Hybrid Networks to Provide Broadband Access Products to the People's Republic Of China GLW and Hybrid Networks Sign Exclusive Agreement to Provide Superior Broadband Access Systems for High Speed Data Services CUPERTINO, Calif., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Hybrid Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: HYBR - news) today announced an exclusive contract with GLW, a value added reseller (VAR) located in Fremont, CA, for the rights to sell Hybrid's broadband access systems in the People's Republic of China (PRC). GLW has signed a multi-year contract which has the potential to generate up to $6.6M in the first three years with potential for additional growth over the balance of the contract. Terms of exclusivity are specified in the agreement. ''We chose Hybrid Networks products after evaluating several leading vendors solutions. We found Hybrid's cable and wireless solution to be the best in robustness, flexibility, scalability and performance. Over 200 cable operators in China previewed Hybrid's network solution and are excited about visiting the showcase location at Guangzhou CATV,'' said John Wee, GLW Vice President of Operations. ''There was a groundswell of support for the Hybrid solution and the company's partnership with China in building out data networks of the PRC and possibly telephony in the future.'' Guangzhou CATV (known as GZCATV in China) is the first cable company operator in the PRC to place an order for headend equipment, QPSK cable modems, and one way down cable modems with telephone return. GZCATV has approximately 600,000 subscribers in Guangzhou which is the capital city of Guangdong province and is considered the high tech corridor of China. Carl Ledbetter, Hybrid Networks president and CEO, said, ''We are partnering with GLW because of their close ties to Chinese cable operators and their ability to expand Hybrid's presence in that market. In choosing a partner for China, the key criteria we looked for were the ability to both sell and maintain a system. GLW, as a major VAR in the PRC, is ideally suited for both distribution and support. We value GLW's highly respected position in China, and their ability to sell and provide excellent in-country technical support.'' ''The Chinese market is critical for cable modem vendors. We expect the cable market to grow from the current 48 million subscribers to an estimated 62 million worldwide by the year 2000,'' said Harvey Morrison, a senior analyst at Ryan Hankin Kent (RHK Consulting). ''There continues to be strong interest in providing data and telephony across HFC networks and, despite the Asian crisis, China is continuing to invest in communications.'' Guardian I have no information on Pacific Monolithics, but they were next door almost to HLIT(Sunnyvale). I hope HLIT was keeping an eye on them. Tim
