I don't believe it for a minute! Intel cut
prices to put pressure on AMD/Cyrix and to
increase market share.

Greg - Re :" Intel was cutting the price of the 333Mhz PII
by 19%... du to better than expected yield on the .25 process as well as to increase the demand for the MP."

The device was cut from $722 to $583.

As the "high end" Pentium II, it will be supplanted on April 15 with faster versions.

People are aware of this and Intel is driving the price down to keep/increase sales of the "333" .

When the 350 and 400 MHz Pentium II's are announced, the price for the 333 MHz part will be cut again - to about $450 or less.

Intel will have essentially a "ladder" of Pentium IIs with speeds ranging from 233, 266, 300, 333, 350 and 400 MHz.

The TOP will always be around $700 to $800, so that means the prices on all the others will drop down to make a stratification in pricing - probably ranging from about $199 on the low end up to $800 on the high end.
