Richard Dean,

<< you must have seen the latest mouse study too>>

What did this new mouse study reveal? Anything new or was it the same boring stuff like complete tumor regressions?

David

David Cathcart and I have been having some dialogue about the marketing of Salagen for Sjogren's by MGI. Basically, I am concerned that MGI is just too small to effectively penetrate the large and diffuse Sjogren's market (up to a million poorly-identified sufferers) by itself.

The example I cited is that of Dura, which markets some 30 (mostly niche) products in the respiratory area. They target about 80,000 prescribing physicians that they think write about 75% of the relevant prescriptions. They just announced they are raising the size of their sales force from 270 to 450 people!

Now my guess is that the target for potential Salagen's prescribers is considerably _larger_ than this. (BTW, does anyone know if dentists are able/likely to prescribe it?) This means that the Sjogren's market can only be well penetrated by an existing large sales force that is already calling on the target population of doctors. That means a joint marketing partnership with a large company.

Does anyone know if MGI is at least open to this possibility? Obviously if you can't find a partner on reasonable terms you go it alone, but shouldn't they at least be looking?

Comments, anyone?

Peter
