Richard,

I'm a new (free) user,... I joined no less than 15 minutes ago. This is the second thread that I've read as a new user; this is my first post. I had been visiting SI for about 2 weeks before I decided that I wanted to see what advantage JOINING would bring. 1/2 hour ago I couldn't see myself joining SI, now I can. I think that's the advantage of having a free one month trial period, from time to time. (I can certainly see why it would cause problems on a full time basis.)

Anyway,... those are just the thoughts of a new user. (Who'll probably become a paying member, and rarely post mesasges,... lurk. )

Paul

Rick,

I agree with all of your points. The visitor policy is having a negative impact on the quality and number of posts within the various threads. I really hate having to read a bunch of garbage in an informative thread for the gems that are contained within.

Do you know what the first thing I check anymore? It is the date on which the poster joined SI. If it is recent, I s%$tcan the information as hype.

It's a damn shame that the new policy is creating just another set of stupid chat areas. As a person who left the misc.invest.stocks newgroups a long time ago to get away from this crap, I resent the fact the current policy has allowed users to be able to post messages.

Private list servers do not allow the diversity of opinion that was found in SI, but the impact of the new visitor policy is increasing the signal to noise ratio to absurd prpportions.
