Chief - in a meeting in October or maybe early November with some people whose judgement I respect, the value of LC 4&6 per share of Placer was estimated at 3.50-4.00. They have 250 mil shares out, so that was a valuation of a billion Canadian. In the meantime, though, NAVs have come down as people use lower POGs in the calculations, so I would expect their current value to be half or less of the fall 97 figure.

I think you're right on the Placer/Cerro Casale deal - it is their second choice, their Plan B - and they would rather have Las Cristinas.

My Venezuelan friend says that he does not now expect legislative action on the current case before the CSJ, based on public statements he has heard yesterday and today. At the same time, both the mining law and the composition of the Supreme Court is before the legislature.

Re posting under 'real' names or anonymes - I guess if I could be one hundred per cent convinced that every single individual posting or lurking on the Internet was a sane, safe, and trustworthy person, I might consider posting under my 'real' name. But until then it's marcos, which is my 'real' nickname in one of my countries. And anyway, we've all seen many idiotic and outright false statements made using 'real' names - remember Egizio Bianchini "The gold is there!"?

.... have a good week-end, all ......... cheers ........... marcos
