Frank,

You need to separate pathology from neurology. Though it is estimated to take well over a decade from first pathology to ultimate loss of all cognitive capacity - when during this time do you see the neurology? How many neurons die until a person is noticeably demented? Swift progression = the passage of time after a person is first diagnosed up to the time point when cognition is no longer enhanceable. <<less than 4 years in the majority of cases>> maybe through your high school you can arrange to volunteer at a clinic/ adult home and see what AD means for a person vs. for a brain/ brain cell.

You need to be more thoughtful and objective: we are here to make money - ANY INTERVENTION TO PREVENT NEURODEGENERATION *NO MATTER HOW NON-SPECIFIC* WILL BE EXTREMELY PROFITABLE.

(Though I am more intellectually motivated by understanding mechanism and mechanistic approach to disease prevention.)

And yes, Mattson isn't even approaching mechanism - maybe if you understood his work you would have followed this in my post.
