Rudedog - you are right, I forgot about Dell's problems earlier.
However, in the very start, out of the dorm room, etc, it was
a direct model. I thought they tried other, indirect approaches
as well (like you mentioned) but I think they always had a
direct model at the heart of the company - just that they
"deworsified" into some other approaches for awhile.

Either way, they do not have the entrenched channel of
resellers, etc which are like a stranglehold on non-Dell pc
companies (except GTW). These resellers must make their
markup, which makes the products they sell less competitive
on a price basis than Dell's products. This does not even
get into the inherent advantages dell has as a manufacturer
(discussed ad nauseum already).

I really like this two-pronged advantage dell has - and as long
as that exists, I'm in this stock...
