Dear JA:

The rules for exploiting LMDS licences are extremely
flexible, and I do not believe any FCC authorization
would be required for the use of reflectors. As I understand
it, the only constraints are: a) polarization (vertical
and horizontal) at the edges of a BTA, b) radiated power
at the edges of a BTA (but not between cells inside
a BTA), and c) frequency tolerance of LMDS transmitters.

Also, while the use of a reflector might impair fade
margin for users located at the edges of a cell,
for users located closer to the center of the cell,
there is enough margin. Users at the edges of a cell
can be handled by cell overlap (presumably LOS would
be available from at least one transmitter covering
the user).

Of course, the other option, besides reflectors,
is to use microcell repeaters.

Thanks for your post. We need more of those, and less
name calling, even if CVUS's stock price does not
give us too many reasons to be cheerful.

Have a good week-end,

Bernard Levy
